Despite the challenges of sourcing a work experience opportunity due to Covid-19 restrictions in the workplace, some of our Year 12 students were successful in their search and took part in a week-long work placement in July.

Head Boy, Adam H was delighted to spend the week at Victoria Lane Primary School to gain experience working with children as he aspires to a career as a primary teacher, and Freya D and Louise S both worked at Jack Drum Arts, which organises creative and performance-based community activities for children and young people in and around Crook. Lucy F went to Park House Rest Home where she organised a range of activities to entertain the elderly residents.

Other students took part in a wide range of virtual work experience sessions which are now on offer to compensate for the lack of live placements. Amelia P took part in the excellent Young Vet Programme, which gives students aged 15-18 years old an immersive experience of Veterinary Science through a series of role-play situations, seminars, simulations and Q&A sessions led by a group of experienced veterinary professionals over two days. Bethany I took part in a new virtual workshop in partnership with the NHS called NextGen Nurse, which is aimed at encouraging more students to consider a career in nursing. The workshop gives students the opportunity to find out about a wide range of different career routes into nursing supported by NHS nursing ambassadors. Camron W took part in a virtual placement ran by The High Tide Foundation called Introducing the Essential World of Law.
